Poetry; AFRICAN WOMAN

Hey sister, rocking that fro with a smile
Nubian diva full figure, a booty worth your while
Brown chocolate, no I'm dark coffee I ain't gonna lie
Not accepting your beauty cuz the truth is expensive to buy
Time has changed we all just wanna be light-skinned so not cool
But in the eyes of the outsider we are still black like coal
With her shuku and Ankara she shrugs as she walks by in her own skin
I see the boli seller wiping her sweat with her wrapper as proud as she can be
At that owambe, the sultry Yoruba woman on her gele dancing with dele
Igbo kwenu it's August meeting, full figured Igbo mothers rocking their jorge
Aii sallah ya zo, the forever young Hausa ladies making waina da masa
Take a look at those kids playing suwe, being happy proud in their own way
She is light-skinned but she knows she's a black woman
Oreos skinned woman why change is it because of that man?
Hey sister don't give into the pressure your beauty can't be measured
They say it's dirty, they say it's not attractive
I say it's beautiful cuz it's our identity.

For I am a PROUD AFRICAN WOMAN
